Year 8 Science

Budding medical students

Year 8G and 8B students have been studying human body systems in Science and recently dissected preserved rats to gain first-hand experience of the reality of dissection and exploratory anatomy.

Students also discussed the ethics of dissection and the importance of being respectful to the organisms they dissect. Many students were surprised to learn that to become a doctor, medical students are required to dissect deceased people who have donated their bodies to science.

No student was compelled to participate, but those who did or who observed agreed that the experience gave them far greater insight into mammalian anatomy than viewing images in a text book or a slide show does.

Congratulations to the students for their focussed and interested attitude and for the respectful way they treated the specimens.

Year 9 English

Year 9 English students have been studying Romeo and Juliet this term. They have been engaging in group work, and sharing their ideas with each other. They have developed their understanding through a collaborative, thematic approach. They have done excellent work, and are currently working very hard at drafting their comparative essays.

You Debate

The debating competition that was held in Sydney was a great opportunity for us students to engage in educational activities whilst having fun. We were able to learn lifelong skills and make new friends on the way. We had a lot of fun sightseeing and making memories. I highly recommend that everybody chooses debating as an elective and can’t wait to see next year’s competition.
